Post Partum and a Year on of using Period Pants with Modibodi

It’s been just over a year since I started using Period Pants, specifically Modibodi period underwear. So I thought I’d do a little update on how I’ve found using them, and talk about some of the new Modibodi items that have come available since I last wrote about them.

In the past year I have to admit that I haven’t actually had all that many periods. I think about three or four, as I then fell pregnant with our third child, so my periods stopped. But I did get some use out of my period pants, and have since been using them as part of my post partum healing.

So about my periods so you get an idea of how I use my period pants. My period generally runs for five days, with maybe a day at the end of spotting. The first two days of my period, I would consider heavy, though not so much that I have any problems. The remaining days are medium to low flow. Prior to using period pants, I would use a sanitary pad on the first day or two, and then switch to tampons. I’ve never needed to use both at the same time for my period. I have gone off tampons completely since having Dexter and used them irregularly after Henry.

I’ve been using my period pants generally on days three, four and five respectively, as I can usually get the first pair washed and dried from day three ready to wear again on day five (we use reusable nappies so generally have a load of nappies washing every other day anyway, and my period pants go in the wash with these as we don’t use fabric softener in this wash, as reusable nappies wash the same way as period pants).

I have a mix of Modibodi period pants currently, with a pair of high/medium, and a medium/low, as well as a moisture wicking pair for hot days in the summer. In the year since I’ve started my period pants journey, Modibodi have developed their range to include a new absorbency called the Maxi which offers an even high level of absorbency, perfect for very heavy period days, and post partum (you can shop their maternity section too). They’ve also launched an amazing Vegan collection at a really reasonable price and covering many of their underwear styles too. And lastly, they’ve launched a number of beautiful fabric designs and colours to make using period pants an enjoyable and glamourous affair. No doudy pants in this area.

I have the Sensual Hi-Waist Bikini in Blueberry and Seamfree Full Brief in Wild Side.

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about how well these period pants would work, but having used reusable nappies, I had a little more confidence. And now, I’m a complete convert. No russling or crinkling noises when you walk. Super comfy. No horrid plastic smell. No damp feeling. All of the myths and worries debunked completely. If anything I’ve found they’ve made my periods easier, perhaps due to the lack of chemicals. And I feel better not adding more plastic to the rubbish heap.

I’d recommend Modibodi underwear to anyone, and really hope that by the time my daughter needs period underwear, they’re the norm, not the exception.
