If there is one thing that you learn about motherhood it is that you are never really prepared for everything that it brings. You can read every single book, go to a whole array of classes, but, in the most part, the only way that you will learn everything about motherhood, is actually being a mum yourself.

To try and help you to make sense of some of the aspects of being a mum, we have put together our guide to the 4 things that nobody ever tells you about motherhood.

It isn’t easy to get pregnant in the first place

Let’s start right at the beginning, and that is with actually falling pregnant in the first place. Whilst some women may think that they find it easy to become pregnant with their partner, others may find it takes them quite a long time to fall pregnant. They may even have to turn to other fertility measures, such as an IVF procedure to help them to conceive. All of which are perfectly normal.

You will have much less time for yourself

It goes without saying that you will have less time for things that you like to do when you have a baby. However, what can be surprising is just how much time you will lose. If you are someone who takes great amounts of pride in the way that they look, then be prepared that this might not always be the case. In fact, gone are the days when you will be looking forward to lengthy hair appointments, instead, you will see the chance to go to the toilet in peace as the greatest treat ever.

Your money won’t be your own anymore

Money can become much tighter when you have a child, which means that you need to think about how better to manage your money. In fact, you are likely to find that you will spend much less money on yourself and the things that you want/need, and instead, you will spend out on your child and all the things that they need.

You will have so much fun

Of course, you are going to need to be a grown-up when you have a child to look after, but that doesn’t mean that you have to “grow up”. In fact, having a child of your own means that you don’t have to always be a grown-up. Instead, you have the perfect excuse to be somewhat of a big kid yourself and have lots and lots of fun.

There is so much learning that needs to happen when you have a child. It can be slightly overwhelming to think about all the things that you need to do and that you need to change about your life. Whilst you may never be prepared fully or all these changes, one thing is for sure, you can take plenty of steps to make the transition much easier for you and help you to get used to your new life with a child to care for.
