AD | Making Macrame Hangers | Learning in Lockdown

If you follow me on social media, you’ll know I’m a massive plant lady. I love them, and have a pretty decent collection of easy to care for plants of at least 30+. Mostly they’re dotted around on window sills to be honest, but I’ve also got a few in macrame hangers which are perfect for trailing plants such as pothos, spider plants and prayer plants.

LoveCrafts* contacted me during lockdown to see if I’d like to try my hand at making my own macrame bottle/plant hanger. The timing was pretty perfect as we were spending a lot of time at home, far too much time on the internet, and I have a few plants that needed a relocation to a higher place.

Full disclosure, I’m not the craftiest person and have always been daunted by the likes of knitting etc, despite really wanting to be a craft person, and basically being a 30 year old granny (plants, cats, tea, books… need I say more?).

However LoveCrafts had a great macrame tutorial for me to follow, including step by step instructions, and a tutorial video, which made life easier and stress free. I’ve embedded the tutorial video to the bottom of this post for you too!

So what will you need?

The tutorial is easy to follow, and pausable as well as easy to rewind if you need to go over a section again.

I’m super pleased with the results, and the Paintbox cotton was a real pleasure to work with, though keep in mind not to stretch it when you’re measuring your lengths. The 254cm lengths look really long but give you lots of room to make the hanger as big as you need with a lovely long tassle at the bottom. I do think I’m going to try a slightly shorter version at around 200cm though to see how that looks. I’m also pretty stoked that I now know how to tie a square knot which is a macrame essential.Next on my to-do list with this cotton is a mini macrame wall hanging!

Big thanks to LoveCrafts for helping me with this project and teaching me a new skill in lockdown! Now my plants are going to be hanging everywhere! Sorry husband! 😉

*Love Crafts kindly gifted me the cotton rope to make this hanger. All opinions are my own.
