It’s honestly impressive what kind of mess kids can make in their bedrooms in a blink of an eye, especially when their rooms are not well-organized. If you want to avoid daily cleanups and arguments, you should work on the bedroom design. If you’re not an expert on remodeling and organization, here are a few tips that will save your life.

Start with a tour

Before you start adding shelves and boxes to your kids’ room, you need to declutter. The best way to do so is to ask your child to give you a tour of their room. This will help you realize what they take pride in and what is not so important to them. If you know what can go and what needs to stay, you’ll have a much easier time decluttering.

Grab plenty of plastic containers

These are super practical for storing all sorts of things from books to toys and clothing. Plastic containers are usually see-through, so you or your kid can quickly see the content of the box without having to check and make a mess. Another great thing about these containers is that they are stackable and they come in all sizes and shapes. You can easily slide them under the bed or stack them on top of a wardrobe.

Set up a small vanity

If your little one loves all the classic girly things, she probably has plenty of makeup lying around her bedroom. One way to clean up the mess and have everything organized is to set up a small yet practical vanity. A desk with a mirror and plenty of drawers and organizer boxes will come in handy for makeup, nail polishes and brushes. It’s best to buy makeup in sets since they usually come in practical boxes that look nice when displayed. If you want to know more about kid-friendly makeup, you can find more info here and surprise your girl with appropriate beauty items. These kits are usually affordable and won’t make a huge mess on her vanity.

Get double-duty furniture

If plastic containers and vanities are not enough to keep all your kid’s possessions, you can look into double-duty furniture. A small ottoman with under-the-seat storage can be a perfect place to store rarely-used items. A chest can be used for storage, but it can also double as a table for tea parties and drawing sessions. Double-duty furniture is especially practical for older kids who have friends over and always need extra seating.

Help with clothing

Do you always have to wait for ages until your kid comes for breakfast in the morning? Well, they are probably struggling with their outfits for the day. Luckily, getting them plenty of clothing storage can greatly help with choices and keep their rooms clean and tidy. If your kid has a closet, fill it with bins labeled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and so on, so you can help them choose their outfits on Sunday and have them ready for school on weekdays in no time. If they have a dresser with drawers, labeling each drawer can also help (one for underwear, one for t-shirts, one for pants…)

Hang a pegboard

A pegboard is cheap and easy to mount yet offers great organizing possibilities. For instance, it can be used for hanging and displaying baseball hats, jewelry, bags and many other things that usually end up on the bed, floor or chair. However, since pegboards have hooks which can be a hazard, it’s best to only use them in your older kids’ bedrooms.

Now that every item has a home that’s practical to reach, you can expect a lot less clutter and mess in your child’s bedroom. It will take them some time to learn how to properly use their storage space and organizers, but once they do, they will learn how to stay tidy for life!
