I think it's a blogger's summer rite of passage to get themselves to a 'pick your own' so obviously we had to go and have a visit to our local farm.
Luckily for us Pickwell Farm is walking distance from our house so last Saturday when we had a free afternoon we toddled off to get some fresh fruit and veg and a run around in the fields.
Of course we got a load of photos - which I LOVE - but I also decided to test out the video function on our Canon 200D and start our journey into Youtube!!! I've embedded the little video at the at the end of the post so make sure you have a little watch, and subscribe to my channel!
We of course had to go and stop by Zeeberry who was part of last summer's Zany Zebra trail and one of the cities favourite designs! He now lives with his sponsors at Pickwell Farm, and he's obviously still very popular!
We picked courgette and rhubarb with a running around Henry! So much fun. We were looking for blackberries but they aren't quite ripe yet, so I think another trip is on the cards soon!
And of course Henry found a stick... or about four actually! The kid is obsessed with waving them around!
We ended up spending ages in the strawberry fields picking a little punnet to take home. We were a little but cautious about whether we'd get much as the week's weather hadn't helped the crops, but we got lots and great fruit, and Henry had a wail of a time.
Admittedly he was more interested in picking up and re-distributing the hay on the floor than actually picking the strawberries, but at least he has fun! Plus he learnt how to get himself stood up from the ground without pulling himself up on something, so that was pretty great.
Plus how actually adorable are these photos!! Dare I say these are my new faves again?!?!
Last but by no means least was raspberry picking. These are actually my favourite fruit so I was pretty excited, though like the blackberries it was difficult to find a good selection, but still a fun experience.
If you're local to Southampton and fancy some fruit and veg picking, then over to Pickwell Farm. Their Facebook is also great for keeping up to date with what's available to pick and when.
And you can bet anything we are VERY excited for pumpkin picking in October!!
Now that's something I've never tried - visiting a farm and picking up stuff. I think we should try it here, in Kent too, I'm sure there's loads of farms doing this too (haven't researched it myself) so will look into it. Hopefully this way my son will learn to love veg......LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh we love strawberry picking! We went earlier in the summer and had a great day. Strawberries always taste even better when you've picked them yourselves!
ReplyDeletelove fruit picking it looks as though you had an incredible time. We love fruit picking too and the children love eating what they have picked.
ReplyDeleteStrawberry picking is so fun for anyone at any age! My local place shut down a few years ago and there is nowhere near us now sadly. :(

ReplyDeleteAhh how sweet little baby!! We do strawberry picking each year, the kids love the ice cream that comes afterwards :)
ReplyDeleteI completely adore strawberry picking. You know, the place near me supplies Wimbledon their strawberries. Also, they're raised off the ground so easy to pick.

Fruit picking is so much fun - and then you get to make things and eat them. So good x
