I'm a hot drink lover. Specifically tea. Hence half the blog name!
I never used to like coffee (I do now but that's a different story) so got used to finding new hot drinks, as tea over and over again can get a little boring, unless you like flavoured teas. Fortunately I do like a mix of teas, and other hot drinks, so thought I would share a few of my favourites.
Chai Latte
This is a real favourite and one I discovered a few years back when I didn't drink coffee and worked as a Barista. Pretty much all coffee shops sell it, and you can pick it up in Tesco and online quite easily now. A Chai Latte is a cinnamon flavoured tea drink, made with hot milk (though you can use half hot water, half milk if you are that way inclined). You essentially make it the same way you would make a hot chocolate with milk - 3-4 heaped teaspoons, and pour over hot milk and stir! Simple! It's a real winter treat, and always reminds me of Christmas.
Dreamtime
This is actually a favourite of Dann's from Whittards (you'll be seeing plenty from them as they are kind of my go-to place for at home alternative hot drinks, as you'll soon see!) Dreamtime is a peach and honey instant tea, which comes in a power form. Similar to instant coffee or hot chocolate, spoon 2-3 spoons of the powder into a mug and add hot water, then stir. This is a staple in our house, and really does help if you're struggling to get to sleep.
Creme Brulee White Hot Chocolate
This is a new one for me this year. A couple of years back a friend of mine bought me the Lemon Meringue White Hot Chocolate (now discontinued as far as I can tell). I was really skeptical, but it was lush, so when I saw the Creme Brulee White Hot Chocolate I knew I had to try it. You make it in the same way as a Chai Tea Latte but also with all milk - because let's be honest hot chocolate should always be made with milk. It's a really creamy drink, that's sweet, but not too sweet.
Flowering Tea
Another of Dann's favourites, and a total must everytime we go to Wagamamas. Flowering Tea can come in an amazing assortment. I bought our ones online on Ebay and they pretty much last forever. Just pop into a cup of hot water and let it work it's flowering magic. Works particularly well if you have a clear (heat-proof) mug. This is a great healthy option or if you want something a little lighter.
Hot Chocolate Spoon
I love these, and plan on making homemade ones because they are so cool and simple. It's chocolate on a spoon! Grab a mug of hot milk and swirl the Hot Chocolate Spoon around, melting the chocolate. It's truly yummy! And great fun for kids too.
What are your favourite hot drinks for winter?
I need to try some of that instant tea! I've been on the hunt for my perfect hot drink
